Autoimmune Disorders
What are the causes of autoimmune disorders and what can we do about it - can diet help?
Autoimmune disorders happen when the immune system fails to recognize the difference between healthy body tissue and something referred to in the medical profession as antigens. (Examples of antigens are viruses, toxins and cancerous cells.) Until today, the cause of this condition is still unknown although research is being done that might suggest links to various bacteria and viruses. Whilst symptoms vary according to which part of the body is affected, fatigue and fever are the most common symptoms. One of the main goals of the treatment of autoimmune disorder is to help strengthen the body's ability to fight disease. One of the ways in which this can be done is to live as healthily as possible and to source a good diet. Foods that contain antioxidants are well documented as having the ability to boost the immune system.
