A Closer Look at Diabetes
It is possible to control diabetes - once diagnosed
Diabetes is a condition where the sufferer has higher than normal blood sugar levels. It is sometimes controlled through insulin injection but in its early stages can also be controlled through diet. Diabetes is much more prevalent in the western hemisphere than in poorer countries where food is less readily available and also far less processed. Symptoms usually include: frequent urination, increased thirst and hunger. If left untreated diabetes can have severe consequences, leading to blindness, lower limb amputations and kidney failure. Thankfully, these days it is fully treatable and if you suspect that you may have diabetes then it is important to seek expert advice as soon as possible. It is more important than ever to make the right food choices when you have diabetes. For instance you should eat smaller portions, consume less fat and avoiding fried foods, whole milk and dairy products. Cakes and pies are also considered off limits. Even food that is perceived as harmless such as salad dressings need to be looked at carefully as they often include things like oil and honey in their ingredients. By eating smaller portions and learning what a serving size is for different foods you can begin to help your body control diabetes.
