Is yoga fat-burning?
Does yoga training burn fat or not?
Yoga workouts have become extremely popular during the last years. However, there is a big question mark concerning yoga as a fat burner. The answer is not simple. Losing weight is a matter of balance. If you burn, via exercise, more calories than those you consume, your body will burn extra calories from its fat stores and eventually you will lose weight. Cardio exercises like swimming, cycling or running, burn indisputably more calories than resistance exercises (like yoga), due to the mobilization of more major muscles and also due to constant movement. However, resistance exercises too, like yoga, burn many calories, because they strengthen your muscles and consequently they increase your metabolism throughout the day. Therefore, a combination of certain types of yoga (i.e. Ashtanga, power yoga) with walking, running or biking, on daily basis is an ideal approach for losing weight!
